ABOUT IWSHM 2027
Theme: "Building Trusted and Reliable SHM: From Structural Awareness to Autonomous Decisions"
Over the years, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has evolved from a promising sensing technology into a powerful capability for assessing the condition and integrity of structural systems.
While significant advances have been made in sensing, signal processing, machine learning, digital twin, and prognostics, the next frontier is enabling SHM information to support and ultimately drive operational decisions with confidence.
As autonomous vehicles, intelligent infrastructure, advanced air mobility, space systems, and Industry 4.0 environments become increasingly prevalent, the need for trusted, real-time structural awareness has never been greater. SHM must move beyond detecting and diagnosing damage to providing actionable information that can be integrated into autonomous decision-making frameworks.
IWSHM 2027 Theme Description
The theme of IWSHM 2027, "Building Trusted and Reliable SHM: From Structural Awareness to Autonomous Decisions," focuses on the technologies, methodologies, and validation approaches needed to transform SHM into a trusted and reliable operational capability tool.
The workshop will explore advances in: Autonomous sensing, Physics-based artificial intelligence, Digital twins, Data transfer learning, Prognostics, Uncertainty quantification, SHM certification, Cybersecurity, and Human–machine collaboration.
Key Focus Areas
A key emphasis will be on establishing: Trust, Reliability, Explainability, and Long-term sustainment of SHM systems.
These elements are essential so that structural information can be confidently used to support: Mission planning, Maintenance decision-making, Fleet management, and Autonomous operations
Data Management and Security
As SHM deployments generate increasingly large volumes of data, the workshop will also address: data collection, management, communication, storage, and encryption.
These strategies are required to ensure: data integrity, security, and accessibility.
Vision for IWSHM 2027
By bringing together researchers, industry leaders, operators, and regulatory agencies, IWSHM 2027 will provide a forum for defining the roadmap toward intelligent systems that: Continuously assess structural condition, Predict future performance, Securely manage data, and Support informed decision-making.
These capabilities will enable safer, more reliable, sustainable, and operationally effective: Aerospace systems, Civil infrastructure systems, Energy systems, and Defense systems
